There are two types of log loaders.
The first type of the log feeder manages the infeed of the single logs from the cross chain conveyor 112, log deck 101 or step feeder 102 onto the carriage of the band saw. The massive frame is welded from sectional steel and burnt steel. The shaft with loading arms swings inside the frame. It is driven by hydraulic cylinders. The width of the feeder depends on the length of the logs, which are usually from 2,5 to 8,0 m. The following device is generally a carriage of the band saw.
The second type is log singulator, which separates the logs and manages the gap between logs on the longitudinal conveyor. Generally it follows after an elevator 103. Its task is to load just one piece of the logs onto the next conveyor. The massive frame is welded from sectional steel and burnt steel. The shaft with loading cams turns inside the frame. It is driven by an electric motor. The hydraulic drive is seldom. The shape of cams is designed to separate two different sizes of the log diameters – smaller and larger. The overall width depends on the log length which can vary from 2,5 to 24,0 m. The log feeder is usually followed by a longitudinal infeed chain conveyor 106, 107, 109, 110.
